The Type 97 Chi-Ha was the main medium tank (or Chi-Sensha of the Imperial Japanese Army during the war. It was available in 1938, but did not come into full service till 1943. The original role of the Chi-Ha was deal with infantry and fortifications, but the presence of enemy armor in the Pacific War resulted in the Shinhoto Type 97 appearing in 1942, which had a more powerful 47mm high velocity gun. |
