The most-produced British armored car during the war, 5000 were built between 1940 and 1945. Used primarily for reconnaisance, the armored car combined the mobility and speed of a wheeled vehicle with the armament and armor of a light tank. The Humber Mk I and II had a crew of three, while the MkIII, first produced in 1942, had a larger turret allowing a crew of four. The Humber MkIV replaced the 15mm BESA machine gun with a 37mm M6 cannon (8d6+6/1y AP or 7d6/2y HE), with a crew of three. |
