Introduced as an anti-tank weapon in 1933, the M-2 was put to use in the war primarily against personnel and aircraft. A heavy-barrel version, the M-2HB, was quickly developed as it was not possible to fire more than 70 to 80 rounds without overheating the barrel. The M-2 was normally mounted on a vehicle or a heavy tripod.
