|COMBAT USE: British & Commonwealth armed forces|
Adopted shortly before the war began as the standard issue rifle of British and Commonwealth armed forces, the No.4 was essentially the same design as the SMLE made for easier manufacture. The No.4 did not see widespread use until around 1943-1944. A sniper version was produced as the No.4(T), which fitted the standard rifle with the No.32 telescopic sight and modified the stock.
